INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
My work with individuals is rooted in my training as a psychodynamic and psychoanalytically oriented psychologist. I believe that through talk comes understanding, and with a deeper, fuller understanding of oneself, both feelings and behaviors can change.
I enjoy working with a broad spectrum of patients from different backgrounds, of different ages and with different issues they want to to address. With that said, some areas of particular interest and with which I have experience are:
Grief
Whether you are in acute stages of new bereavement, or still struggling with a long ago loss, grief and mourning are feelings I am comfortable sitting with, and can help you move through feelings which may seem overwhelming and unbearable. I understand it can be a terrifying prospect to address these feelings, and equally, knew they can stymie your own life if the grief goes unaddressed. With talk and time, therapy can help you move through these feelings.
Money
My own research, together with my clinical experience, suggests that money can stand as a placeholder for other feelings, such as power, envy, shame and guilt. Money is one of the most taboo topics in our society, yet when discussed and understood, can serve as a launching point to greater self-awareness and improved interpersonal relationships.
Aging
While I have extensive experience working with elderly adults as well as their adult children, I do not limit issues of “aging” to issues around the end of life. Rather, issues around “aging” are spurred as one experiences a bridging from one stage of life to the next.
Milestones—whether a lifecycle event or significant birthday—can spur thoughts and feelings about one’s life, including achievements gained and perceived opportunities lost.
LGBTQ
I do not believe that your sexual orientation or gender identity should limit your psychotherapy to those particular issues. However, I am both comfortable and experienced in providing a safe space to explore these issues with you, if/as they arise.
